In the automotive market, interest in silicon carbide (SiC) power semiconductor devices is rapidly increasing. Currently, SiC power devices lag behind traditional silicon-based IGBTs in terms of cost and reliability. Nevertheless, nearly all automotive OEMs and Tier-1 suppliers have either begun adopting SiC for components in electrified vehicle models or are developing related products. Overall, the activities of OEMs and suppliers indicate a growing importance of SiC-related technologies in the automotive industry. In terms of applications, SiC power devices primarily target main traction inverters, onboard chargers, DC/DC converters, and compressors within HVAC systems. In particular, SiC power devices are considered crucial for the performance of main traction inverters. SiC MOSFETs are gradually replacing Si IGBTs for main traction inverters in new energy vehicles (NEVs) belonging to the mid-range and high-end segments.
